Painful Feelings

What is it to have an experience in the safe presence of another? To be exposed while feeling understood, void of judgment, full of curiosity? To notice a resistance, to feel a defense, to sit with it and be there with that experience. To dislike it, to want out, to want to change the topic, the feeling, the trajectory of this conversation…but then to not. To be okay to be in that resistance a little longer because despite this instant, “I don’t want to feel this” you also feel a wedge of, but it’s safe too here. And We Can. You Can. With another compassionate, caring, here for you person. We can sit there together. In that moment, in this unwanted thing. We can feel, we trust, we connect with our pain, in the safe presence of another.
